- Watching
the Weather, Prentice Hall, Inc.: The lesson submitted from taken from this resource. It involves students observing
and recording weather conditions. Because Prentice Hall is not available
to the general public, the submitted lesson has been modified to fit this
project. The Northern Arizona MesoNet collects these data automatically
and keeps a log of the data daily and by month. Use the data to make
predictions of the weather (see sample lesson: What Do I Wear Tomorrow?)
- Investigating
Microclimates, Prentice Hall, Inc.: The lesson submitted involves gathering and
comparing weather data from three different climates. Because Prentice
Hall is not available to the general public, the submitted lesson has been
modified to fit this project.
- Select
three different locations (not in the same city) on the Northern Arizona
MesoNet website. One set of data should be your own school.
- Describe
the environment of each site.
- List
the data you are collecting (choose at least 4 measurements) in a table.
- Graph
and compare the data from all locations.
- Examine
the data for patterns. Compare and contrast the data.
- Prepare
a summary report or presentation of your findings.
- Long-Term
Changes in Climate
- Students
should understand what causes climate (latitude, altitude, distance from
large bodies of water, and ocean currents); climate regions (tropical
rainy, dry, temperate marine, temperate continental, & polar);
changes in the history of climates in various regions (i.e. ice age and
Bering Land Bridge); and factors causing global changes in the atmosphere
(i.e. greenhouse effect)
